2015 Canada Winter Games
Due to warm weather in Prince George, the Canada Winter Games officials advised the City of Fort St. John that the remaining speed skating long track competitions would be moved to the Pomeroy Sport Centre speed skating oval in Fort St. John. With only 2 days notice, City staff prepared the facility for the 63 skaters, coaches, officials and their families who made the 400+ km trip via chartered airplane. 12 races over 3 days and medal ceremonies were held at the Pomeroy Sport Centre with the help of countless volunteers and City of Fort St. John staff.
"These athletes deserve a high-calibre event. Ice quality can make or break their speed skating career. We are very proud of the facility that we have and we are very pleased to be able to support the Canada Winter Games by ensuring a successful speed skating event," stated Mayor Lori Ackerman.
