Economic Development
Fort St. John, BC’s Energy Capital, located in the heart of the majestic Peace River country. Known locally as the “Energetic City” it is a community that is home to some 20,000 residents working in one of the resource industries or service enterprises that give this community its culture. Fort St. John supports a trading area of more than 69,000 people in the city and outlying service region. The population is dynamic, young and energetic. With a median age of 31.4, Fort St. John is one of the youngest municipalities in Canada.
Quality of life is essential for the community and our recreational facilities are second to none. The Pomeroy Sport Centre opened in 2010 and boasts an Olympic sized speed skating oval; indoor walking/running track; and two NHL sized hockey rinks. Made for participation, this facility sees over 60,000 visits each month in the winter season! Laughter and splashing can be heard daily at the indoor pool and wave pool complete with a water slide and toddler area. Over 25 km of trails weave their way throughout the city and along with our many parks and green spaces are host to many sport and health enthusiasts. New developments are required to connect their subdivisions to the trails to continue to expand on creating a safe and healthy community.
