Diversity and Inclusion Micro-Grant
The Diversity and Inclusion Micro-Grant will provide organizations with funding up to $1,000 for new or unique projects that contribute to celebrating equity and inclusion, cultural diversity and improving relationships between the indigenous and non-indigenous communities in Fort St. John.
The purpose of the City of Fort St. John’s Micro Grant is to encourage local community-based groups and organizations to pursue opportunities through showcase events, programs and activities that will celebrate cultural diversity, Truth and Reconciliation, equity, and inclusion, leading to increased community pride and encouraging community interaction, conversation, collaboration and spirit.
Eligibility
- Eligible applicant organizations are registered:
- non-profit society
- non-profit co-operative or community organization
- community museum
- library
- Indigenous, newcomer, immigrant, and ethnocultural community organizations are encouraged to apply.
- The organization must not exclude anyone because of religion, national or ethnic origin, colour, sex, sexual orientation, age, or mental or physical disability.
- The organization must be considered in good standing by the City of Fort St John (such as no outstanding accounts - unpaid taxes, utilities, tickets, permits).
- The event must be a not for profit, community-based activity which is accessible to the public.
- The event must occur in Fort St. John.
- Registered British Columbia businesses may submit proposals in collaboration or partnership with the above organizations.
Funding Levels, Review & Approval Requests
Requests for funding up to a maximum of $1,000 are considered through the Diversity and Inclusion Micro-Grant program. Applications are adjudicated by City staff.
Ineligible Activities
- The program is intended to assist special or one-time projects. The program is not intended to provide on-going operational support to organizations for regular activities.
- Projects in which the main objective is employment are ineligible.
- Applications from individuals are ineligible.
- Costs incurred before the receipt of an application are not eligible for assistance.
- Fundraising events, capital building and development, and major equipment purchases are ineligible.
Important Dates
- Applications close - Friday, December 15, 2023, at 4:30 pm
- Successful projects announced - late December
- Projects completed - November 1, 2024
Application Information
- All projects must have defined start and end dates. If dates need to be adjusted when funding is awarded, the program officer must be informed.
- Application submissions must include a completed application form and budget and project details as outlined in the application.
Payment Conditions of Funding
If your application is approved, you will receive a letter outlining the terms and conditions of funding. Funding recipients must meet the following conditions:
- Contributions must be used for the activity as described in the application. If the project is not undertaken after the funding has been accepted, the recipient must return the funds to the department.
- The City must be notified in advance of any changes in the activity, including start and end dates, location, or any other significant changes.
- Applicants who are not approved for the amount they requested may be required to submit a revised budget based on the approved amount.
- Successful applicants must submit their final report and accounting within 60 days of the project's end.
