September 9, 2024
The City of Fort St. John and the Fort St. John Arts Council have announced the winners of the highly anticipated Bike Rack Design Competition. Earlier this summer, on June 3, 2024, the City invited everyone who lives, works and studies in Fort St. John to showcase their creativity by designing innovative and functional bike racks. Today, the City is excited to reveal the selected designers that will soon enhance the community’s landscape.
Participants were encouraged to submit a design drawing or a photo of a scale model created with a provided model-building kit. With over 50 designs submitted, a blind jury chose the 10 winning designs based on a provided list of design guidelines. The winning designers are:
- A. Acko
- Austin & Konnor (School District #60 Submission)
- B. Kosugi
- E. Stanford
- E. & A. Koselak
- P. Lidudmyla
- V. Butler (two designs)
- K. Carlson
- Valentine & Quinn (School District #60 Submission)
These selected designs will be produced and installed throughout the city. Each winning designer will also receive a $250 prize, although some winners have opted to decline the cash award.
Mayor Lilia Hansen expressed her excitement: "Our Arts and Culture Department was blown away by the incredible enthusiasm and creativity that everyone brought to the Bike Rack Design Competition. We send a heartfelt thank you to the 50+ citizens who entered the contest. The selected designs are not just functional - they’re set to transform the city’s look! We can't wait to unveil these works of art at an upcoming exhibition.”
