City to end membership with Resource Municipalities Coalition
April 5, 2023
The City of Fort St. John has announced that it will not renew its membership with the Resource Municipalities Coalition beyond the current agreement, which expires at the end of 2023.
The coalition is a strategic partnership of communities, business associations, and service sector organizations that work to represent the collective interests of its resource community members. The City of Fort St. John was one of the founding members of the Northeast BC Resource Municipalities Coalition in 2014 during the negotiations of the Fair Share Agreement, now known as the Peace River Agreement.
“The City of Fort St. John has been a proud member of the Resource Municipalities Coalition for many years. We appreciate the valuable work the Resource Municipalities Coalition has done in the past and the support they have provided to our community,” stated Mayor Lilia Hansen.
The decision not to renew the membership results from the City of Fort St. John's challenging budgetary pressures and a thorough review of all discretionary expenses. However, the City remains committed to supporting the growth and development of the resource sector and will continue to work with various organizations and levels of government to advance the interests of our community.
