The City of Fort St. John and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 2143 have ratified a new 3-year agreement. The current collective agreement expired on December 31, 2021, and negotiations have been ongoing over the past few months.
The terms of the new agreement provide a wage increase of 3.5% for 2022 and 4.5% for both 2023 and 2024 years, as well as several housekeeping changes and other collective agreement changes.
“Council is happy that an agreement has been reached with our local fire fighters that recognizes the tremendous work they do to ensure the safety of our residents, businesses, and visitors,” said Mayor Lilia Hansen.
“This agreement provides both the City and our fire fighters with a mutually beneficial agreement that ensures our community’s continued safety,” stated Milo MacDonald, Chief Administrative Officer.
“We would like to extend our appreciation to all the members of the negotiating team for providing the necessary leadership and support throughout this process. The resulting agreement not only benefits IAFF Local 2143, but also ensures that our community can continue to thrive,” shared Matt Crompton, President of IAFF Local 2143.
