North Peace Leisure Pool Annual Maintenance Shutdown

The North Peace Leisure Pool annual maintenance shutdown will take place over an 8-week period starting from September 11 to November 7, 2022. The purpose of this extended closure is to complete necessary repairs that the facility requires, which exceed the usual time needed for annual routine maintenance tasks.
The intent of the extended shutdown is to repair all of the identified issues within the natatorium at once to improve the swimming experience of our community members. The work that is scheduled for completion is from the top down, and includes the slide tower, sauna, pool deck, and the highly anticipated repair of the hot tub. Prior to the work being completed, ground penetrating radar will be used to confirm the structural integrity of the basins that support the extensive repairs to be completed.
The PRRD and the City of Fort St John will continue to work together, in an effort to keep the existing facility operational until a new facility is constructed. We understand the concerns from our user groups and in the region and are working diligently with consultants and experts in the aquatics field to shorten this closure time while balancing the need to make these important repairs.

Through a partnership agreement, the North Peace Leisure Pool is owned by the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) and operated by the City of Fort. St John.
Staff are working with user groups to determine the best approach to offer a delayed start to the fall season. Public programming, such as swimming lessons will be modified and delayed until mid-November. Lesson registration will open September 1 and more information of pool programming can be found on the City’s website or in the Fall Recreation Guide as of September 1, 2022.
