Mayor's statement on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Mayor Lori Ackerman has released the following statement:
“Today, September 30, 2022, marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, intended for all Canadians to create meaningful conversations and to uphold our commitment to reconciliation.
“This is a day for all Canadians to understand the uneven path created by the Indian Act, to honour the Survivors of residential schools and to acknowledge the pain that they, and their families, have carried for generations. Further, we must unite in meaningful ways to build a future based on relationships and mutual respect, one that our grandchildren and their grandchildren will welcome.
“The City of Fort St. John encourages all residents to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation through personal reflection, education and awareness activities or by participating in the ‘Every Child Matters: Walk and BBQ’ event hosted by the Treaty 8 Tribal Association at Centennial Park starting at 11 am.”
