City honours Jim Eglinski with Freedom of the City Award

Today, at a ceremony held inside City Hall, Fort St. John City Council honoured Mr. Jim Eglinski with the Freedom of the City Award, recognizing his many contributions to our community.

Following his service as the Fort St. John RCMP Detachment’s Officer in Charge, during his decorated RCMP career, Jim spent six years representing our community, first as a Councillor then as Mayor. He represented the community locally, nationally and internationally, including a Trade Mission to China and serving on the Northwest Corridor Development Corporation.

“This award recognizes the tremendous work that was done over the many years by Mr. Eglinski. The City of Fort St. John is proud to present him with this award and add him to the list of those who always gave their best,” stated Mayor Lori Ackerman.

The Freedom of the City is the highest honour given by the City of Fort St. John and is used in exceptional cases to recognize the significant contributions the recipient has made to our community. Council, by unanimous vote, can award the Freedom of the City to a distinguished person or unit of the armed forces.

About Jim Eglinski

Jim moved to Fort St. John in the summer of 1996 to become the RCMP Officer in Charge, and after a 35-year career with the RCMP, he retired as a Staff Sargent in 2002. Following his decorated RCMP career, he was elected a City of Fort St. John Councillor from 2002 to 2005 and the Mayor from 2005 to 2008. He represented the community locally, nationally and internationally, including a Trade Mission to China and serving on the Northwest Corridor Development Corporation. After moving closer to his family in 2009, he served as the Member of Parliament for Yellowhead from 2014 to 2019.
