June 24, 2020

The City of Fort St. John, through the newly formed Mayor’s Standing Committee on Community Economic Recovery, and Northern Development Initiative Trust have announced a COVID-19 Business Support Grant program. Grants will be available to local businesses and non-profits to support them in the safe re-opening by providing financial support for the necessary alterations and supplies needed to comply with Provincial orders and WorkSafe BC regulations.

Through the Northern Development Initiative Trust’s Downtown Façade Program, and matched by the Business License revenue funds through the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Community Economic Recovery, there is up to $40,000 in grants available.

Beginning Thursday, June 25 at 9 am, businesses with a current City of Fort St. John Business License can apply for a grant up to $500 to assist in re-opening expenses. Eligible expenses include personal protective equipment, safety equipment and signage, physical barriers, or other costs required to comply with COVID-19 related orders and requirements. The application form can be found at www.fortstjohn.ca/covid19-business-support-grant, and businesses will be required to submit receipts, dating back to March 10, 2020, and pictures to have their application completed.

“Fort St. John relies on our local businesses and non-profit agencies to create a strong community, and COVID-19 has severely impacted their operations. Through the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Community Economic Recovery, we will continue to work to ensure our community thrives well into the future,” said Mayor Lori Ackerman.
