City celebrates 10 years of the Pomeroy Sport Centre

Officially opened on October 13, 2010, the Pomeroy Sport Centre has provided an unparalleled experience for residents and visitors for ten years. As Fort St. John’s newest recreation complex, the Pomeroy Sport Centre continues to promote community and personal wellness and provides an attractive venue for events appealing to a wide range of interests.
From the two NHL-sized ice rinks to Northern Vac Track and one of only four indoor Olympic-sized long track speed skating ovals in North America, the Pomeroy Sport Centre has hosted several provincial, national and international events in the past ten years, including:
- 2012 Canadian Masters Speed Skating
- 2012 Canadian Age Class Long Track Speed Skating Championships
- 2012 Canadian National 3D Archery Championship
- 2014, 2018, and 2019 Canada Cup #1 Speed Skating
- 2015 Canada Winter Games - Long Track Speed Skating
- 2017 International Masters Allround Games Speed Skating
- 2017 BC Lacrosse Pee Wee Provincial Championships
- 2018 Canada Cup #3 Speed Skating and Canadian Junior Long Track Championships
- 2020 BC Winter Games - Speed Skating and Ringette
“We are so pleased that the past ten years this world-class multi-functional facility has offered our families and youth the opportunity to experience the thrill of watching provincial, national and international events. Watching our athletes in local events and practices as they continue to gain strength and experience on the ice ensures that our history of having athletes on the national and international stages will continue,” said Mayor Lori Ackerman.
To celebrate, the City has planned several activities for Tuesday, October 13, including:
- 10% discount on all Pomeroy Sport Centre branded merchandise at the Visitor Centre
- Facebook Photo Contest (visit City of Fort St. John Recreation page for more information)
- $5 skate sharpening and rentals from Hard Edge Sports
- $1 Hot Dog and Pop lunch provided by Tasty Dogs in the front parking lot
